Notes - Robert was mentally slow or retarded. He only spoke Pennsylvania Dutch, German. When his parents could no longer care for him, he was sent to live with his siblings for 3 months at a time. When that was no longer available, he was sent to the "Poor House".
At that time (1920s) there were no facilities for the retarded. My father Willard and aunt Betty tells the stories about their Uncle Robert that only wanted to play children's games and climb rocks. Mary Stella Maurer, his sister, was always worried he was going to get hurt while climbing on the big rocks.
Robert never married and died in "the poor house".
